El/La
Corporate Counsel, Lithium Buenos Aires brindará soporte legal estratégico al negocio de Rio Tinto Lithium en Argentina, con responsabilidad principal sobre asuntos legales a nivel nacional y soporte legal a la oficina de Buenos Aires. El rol es crítico para garantizar el desarrollo del negocio de litio de Rio Tinto en Argentina, gestionando los riesgos legales y respaldando oportunidades comerciales. La posición requiere una sólida capacidad analítica, criterio comercial y la habilidad para gestionar asuntos corporativos, regulatorios, impositivos, aduaneros y de financiamiento complejos, en un entorno dinámico y multifuncional.
Responsabilidades y Funciones Esenciales
- Liderar los asuntos legales corporativos a nivel nacional.
- Brindar soporte legal en estructuras de financiamiento de proyectos (por ejemplo, cumplimiento de préstamos IFC).
- Revisar préstamos intercompañía y acuerdos internos de financiamiento.
- Asesorar en regulaciones cambiarias y cumplimiento transfronterizo.
- Brindar soporte legal en asuntos regulatorios federales, incluidos temas aduaneros e impositivos.
- Liderar y coordinar con estudios jurídicos externos litigios complejos, arbitrajes y disputas legales de alto impacto que afecten el negocio de Rio Tinto Lithium en Argentina, asegurando una adecuada evaluación de riesgos y alineación estratégica con el liderazgo senior.
- Proveer asesoramiento legal cotidiano a la oficina de Buenos Aires en todas las áreas funcionales, incluyendo asuntos gubernamentales, desarrollo de negocios, impuestos y finanzas.
- Apoyar asuntos legales relacionados con gas y energía vinculados a las operaciones de litio en Salta, Jujuy y Catamarca.
- Garantizar el cumplimiento de gobierno corporativo y de las obligaciones estatutarias de presentación ante la Inspección General de Justicia (IGJ).
- Coordinar reportes legales al Grupo Global de Rio Tinto.
Lo que aportarás
- Título universitario en Derecho (LL.B o equivalente) – excluyente.
- Experiencia mínima de 7 a 10 años en práctica legal corporativa, idealmente en los sectores de energía, oil & gas, minería o infraestructura.
- Se valorará especialmente experiencia en interacción con organismos reguladores, funcionarios públicos e instituciones financieras.
- Actitud proactiva, práctica y ágil al brindar asesoramiento legal a clientes internos.
- Capacidad para colaborar eficazmente con el equipo legal y con los principales stakeholders del negocio, interactuando regularmente con equipos en distintas provincias, demostrando sólidas habilidades de comunicación e interpersonales.
- Excelentes habilidades de redacción y negociación.
- Capacidad para gestionar marcos corporativos y regulatorios complejos.
- Fuertes habilidades interpersonales y capacidad para comunicarse con stakeholders seniors.
- Habilidad para coordinar equipos multidisciplinarios.
- Alto nivel de criterio profesional e integridad.

About The Role

The Corporate Counsel, Lithium Buenos Aires will provide strategic legal support to Rio Tinto Lithium’s Argentina business, with primary responsibility for national-level legal matters and legal support to the Buenos Aires office. The role is critical to ensuring development of Rio Tinto lithium business in Argentina, managing legal risks and supporting business opportunities. The position requires strong analytical capability, commercial judgment, and the ability to manage complex corporate, regulatory, tax, customs, and financing matters in a dynamic and cross-functional environment.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Lead corporate legal matters at a national level;
- Provide legal support in project financing structures (e.g., IFC loan compliance);
- Review intercompany loans and internal financing arrangements;
- Advise on foreign exchange regulations and cross-border compliance;
- Provide legal support on federal regulatory matters, including customs and tax;
- Lead and coordinate with external counsel on complex litigation, arbitration proceedings, and high-impact legal disputes affecting the Argentina RT Lithium business, ensuring appropriate risk assessment and strategic alignment with senior leadership;
- Provide day-to-day legal advice for the Buenos Aires office across all functional areas, including government affairs, business development, tax, and finance;
- Support gas and power related legal matters linked to lithium operations in Salta, Jujuy and Catamarca;
- Ensure compliance with corporate governance and statutory filing requirements before the Inspeccion General de Justicia (IGJ);
- Coordinate legal reporting to RT Group; and
About You
- Law degree (LL.B or equivalent) required.
- Minimum 7-10 years of experience in corporate legal practice, ideally within the energy, oil & gas, mining, or infrastructure sectors.
- Experience in interacting with regulatory authorities, government officials, and financial institutions strongly preferred.
- Be proactive, practical, and agile when providing legal advice to the company’s internal clients.
- Collaborate effectively with the legal team and key business stakeholders, engaging regularly with team members based in different provinces, and demonstrate strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent drafting and negotiation skills.
- Ability to manage complex corporate and regulatory frameworks.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate with senior stakeholders.
- Ability to coordinate multidisciplinary teams.
- High level of professional judgment and integrity.
- Fluent English (written and spoken) – mandatory.
