Purpose and Overview
Pan American Silver is seeking an experienced audit professional to join the team as Corporate Internal Audit Lead (Canada). The successful candidate will be a key member of the global Internal Audit team located across the diverse jurisdictions where the Company operates.
The Corporate Internal Audit Lead (Canada) will be responsible for executing assurance and advisory engagements as part of the annual risk-based Internal Audit Program, while helping the organization accomplish its objectives by bringing a systematic, disciplined approach to evaluate and improve the effectiveness of risk management, control, and governance practices.
Key Responsibilities:
- Execute and/or lead risk-based assurance and advisory engagements, with a goal of both maximizing company performance and control, while minimizing risk.
- Lead the annual Sarbanes-Oxley Act (“SOX”) audit for one or more of the Company’s mine sites, including overseeing external service providers, liaising with site and corporate management, coordinating with external auditors, and providing periodic status updates to the Director, Internal Audit
- Ensure the results of assurance and advisory engagements are reported in an effective and objective manner, supported by adequate evidence of conclusions.
- Monitor the progress of corrective actions previously identified and agreed by management. Provide periodic progress reports to the Director, Internal Audit.
- Adhere to and support the Internal Audit Methodology and ensure engagements are conducted in accordance with defined standards and procedures.
- Support the execution of the quarterly Enterprise Risk Management process through facilitating risk discussions with key stakeholders and updating risk registers.
- Effectively manage external and internal resources allocated to engagements, when applicable.
Required Professional Skills, Experience and Qualifications:
- University degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, Risk Management or another related field
- 8-12 years of relevant internal audit and/or related governance and control experience, enhanced by progressive business and financial control experience
- Strong communication skills in both English and Spanish. Portuguese language skills would be considered an asset. The ideal candidate is articulate, expressive, and engaging and can deliver value-added assessments in a relevant, concise and clear manner.
- A professional accounting designation (e.g. CPA) is preferred and audit-related certifications (CIA, CRMA, CISA, CFE) are considered an asset.
- Current knowledge of audit practices, risk management and ICFR/SOX.
- Experience with IT-related audits and platforms is considered an asset.
- Experience in the mining industry or similar is desired.
- Strong organizational skills, including leadership, management, and process and relationship management.
- The successful candidate must be willing to travel up to 20% of the time during an average year. Most of such travel will be to the company’s operations in Canada and Latin America.
