New Afton
Situated 10 kilometers west of Kamloops, British Columbia, the New Afton mine is an underground gold and copper producing site.

About The Role
Schedule: 4x3 Mon-Thu or 5x2 Mon-Fri
Position Reports to: Senior Mine Engineer or Technical Services Superintendent
Overview
The Mine Planning Engineer supports New Afton operations through short- and mid‑range mine planning, design, and reporting activities. This role is responsible for maintaining mine schedules, preparing monthly plans and physicals, identifying schedule risks and improvement opportunities, and providing engineering and economic support for operational projects, studies, and contractor work in collaboration with site teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Major/minor mine design changes
- Month-end reporting
- Update and maintain mid-range schedule, key outputs include:
- Create monthly 3-month plans
- Mine physicals for all budgets and forecasts
- Assist with forecast and budget cost estimates and updates
- Identifying opportunities for improvement to schedule, or identifying risks to schedule
- Level plots
- Overbreak analysis & reporting
- Provide drill & blast prints as needed
- Construction prints as needed
- Short range planner training as required
Other Responsibilities
- Operational study/project support:
- Provide engineering support for miscellaneous studies or projects
- Help prepare RFP's, RFQ's and AFE's for upcoming work
- Coordinate with other teams to ensure materials required for plans are available – fans, consumables, ground support, etc.
- Economic assessment / trade-off for engineering/design choices as needed
Qualifications
- Bachelors Degree in Mining Engineering or Geological Engineering, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Registered P.Eng with EGBC
- 3+ years of experience in underground mining operations
- Proficient with Microsoft excel
- Experience with using Deswick
Other Requirements
Candidates will be required to participate in a comprehensive qualification process, including:
- Successful completion of pre-placement functional screen
- Provide proof of a valid Class 5 driver’s license
- Demonstrate eligibility to work in Canada
- Provide confirmation of valid educational requirements
Compensation
The anticipated salary for this position will be between $110,000 to $120,000. A comprehensive benefits program and performance bonus plan will also be provided. This is not a camp operation and therefore the successful candidate will be required to relocate to the Kamloops area or travel and accommodation will be the responsibility of the successful applicant.
