The Senior Superintendent I – Hydrogeology Mine is responsible for the operational leadership, coordination, technical management, and optimization of all hydrogeological activities associated with the KCSA underground mining operation.
The role supports a technically complex underground mine environment characterized by:
- Extremely high underground water inflows
- High-pressure aquifer systems
- Challenging and variable ground conditions
- Structurally complex and highly undulating orebody geometry
- Rapidly changing mining conditions
- Continuous mine plan adjustments
The incumbent is accountable for ensuring the effective identification, monitoring, prediction, depressurization, control, and management of underground water risks to support safe, continuous, and optimized mining operations.
The position plays a critical role in integrating hydrogeological considerations into short-term and operational mine planning processes, ensuring that mine plans remain aligned with groundwater conditions, aquifer behavior, dewatering capabilities, and evolving geological conditions.
The role is also responsible for managing hydro cover drilling programs, aquifer depressurization systems, dewatering infrastructure planning, groundwater monitoring systems, and water risk mitigation strategies to minimize operational disruptions and ensure safe underground mining
