About The Opportunity
We have an exciting opportunity for a
Senior Specialist, Cloud and Infrastructure to join our Centerra Corporate team. This is a
hybrid role out of our Vancouver, BC office.
Join our dynamic team where you will play a key role in managing, securing, and optimizing Centerra Gold's enterprise cloud and infrastructure platforms. Reporting to the Director, Cloud Operations and Enterprise Infrastructure, you will support our global Azure environment, enterprise infrastructure, cybersecurity initiatives, and modern data platforms across multiple international mining operations.
This role combines deep technical expertise with operational excellence, automation, and continuous improvement. You will work closely with internal stakeholders and strategic technology partners to deliver secure, scalable, and resilient cloud and infrastructure solutions while supporting digital transformation and AI-enabled technologies.
Your Responsibilities Will Include, But Are Not Limited To
Cloud Platform and Infrastructure
- Manage and optimize the organization's Azure environment, including virtual machines, networking, storage, Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD), Azure Arc-enabled Servers, backup, patching, monitoring, and overall platform health.
- Lead Azure infrastructure deployments, upgrades, migrations, and operational support, ensuring high availability, performance, and reliability.
- Implement and maintain Azure governance and security controls, including Azure Policy, RBAC, encryption, identity, and compliance with enterprise standards.
- Monitor and optimize Azure resources using Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, Application Insights, Azure Update Manager, and Cost Management to improve performance, availability, and cost efficiency.
- Support hybrid cloud integration by ensuring secure connectivity between on-premises infrastructure, Azure services, and third-party platforms.
- Support enterprise data integration and analytics platforms, including Microsoft Fabric, Power BI, Power Apps, Azure Data Factory, Azure SQL and related Azure data services and AI-driven solutions.
- Drive automation through PowerShell, Azure CLI, Infrastructure as Code (IaC), modern productivity tools, and workflow automation to improve operational efficiency.
- Leverage approved AI technologies, including Microsoft Copilot, ChatGPT, Claude, and similar AI platforms, to improve automation, documentation, troubleshooting, analytics, scripting, and knowledge management while ensuring compliance with company security, privacy and governance standards.
- Maintain technical documentation, operational procedures, and cloud architecture standards, while contributing to enterprise architecture, cloud governance, and technology roadmaps in collaboration with the Director, Cloud Operations and Enterprise Architecture.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders, Cybersecurity, Operational Technology (OT) teams, and technology partners to deliver secure, scalable, and resilient cloud solutions while continuously evaluating emerging cloud technologies.
- Provide technical support for the Vancouver office technology requirements.
- Perform other related duties and participate in technology-related initiatives as assigned by the Director, Cloud Operations and Enterprise Architecture.
Global Infrastructure & Network Operations
- Lead or participate in infrastructure projects including planning, implementation, testing, documentation, and operational handover.
- Act as the primary escalation point for mine site IT virtual infrastructure issues (VMware, Hyper-V).
- Manage and optimize enterprise firewalls (Fortinet FortiGate and Palo Alto) in both Azure and on-premises environments.
- Monitor firewall performance metrics (throughput, latency, resource utilization) using built-in tools and implement advanced security configurations (IPS, VPN configurations, threat intelligence, User-ID, FSSO).
- Lead or support firewall deployments, configuration reviews, and software version upgrades.
- Identify infrastructure bottlenecks and recommend hardware/software upgrades.
- Support Cisco switch configuration at mine sites for optimal performance.
- Provide technical expertise for global infrastructure initiatives across corporate offices and mine sites.
- Partner with the OT team to ensure reliable, secure, and highly available connectivity between enterprise IT and OT environments while supporting network segmentation and cybersecurity best practices.
Cybersecurity Monitoring and Support
- Partner with the Cybersecurity Operations Manager to strengthen the organization's security posture through proactive monitoring, incident response, vulnerability management, and continuous improvement.
- Maintain compliance with industry standards through audits, reporting, and remediation.
- Continuously improve the company’s security posture through proactive threat detection and process enhancement.
- Monitor and maintain cybersecurity tools and platforms such as CrowdStrike, Microsoft Sentinel (SIEM), Nozomi, Lansweeper and Nessus.
- Conduct regular vulnerability assessments and assist in developing risk remediation plans.
- Contribute to security awareness initiatives and enforce cybersecurity policies across the organization.
- Work collaboratively with the OT team to implement and maintain cybersecurity controls, ensuring compliance with IT/OT security standards, network segmentation, vulnerability management, and incident response processes.
About You
The following will be critical to successfully performing this role:
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, IT, or related field (or equivalent experience/certifications).
- 5+ years of experience with Azure cloud services, including virtual machines, storage, networking, automation, and enterprise cloud operations.
- Knowledge of Azure best practices, including identity and access management, network security and compliance frameworks.
- Extensive experience with Azure infrastructure design, deployment, optimization, and data integration.
- Strong knowledge of virtual infrastructure (VMware, Hyper-V).
- Proven experience with enterprise firewalls (Fortinet, Palo Alto).
- Advanced hands-on experience with Cisco enterprise switching technologies.
- Experience using Microsoft Copilot, Azure AI services, Claude, ChatGPT Enterprise, or similar enterprise AI platforms is considered an asset.
- Experience with Microsoft Fabric, Power BI, Azure Data Factory, Azure SQL, Power Platform, and AI-enabled modern enterprise analytics platforms is considered an asset.
- Proficiency with enterprise cybersecurity tools and platforms, including CrowdStrike Falcon, Microsoft Sentinel (SIEM), Nessus, Nozomi Networks, and related security technologies.
- Deep understanding of Azure services, resource management, networking, and cost control.
- Strong automation and scripting skills using PowerShell, Azure CLI, Python, Bash, Bicep, Terraform, Git, and REST APIs.
- Understanding of Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and DevOps principles.
- Ability to evaluate emerging cloud technologies and recommend practical enterprise solutions.
- Strong understanding of enterprise networking including routing, switching, VPNs, firewalls, network segmentation, DNS, load balancing, and Zero Trust architectures.
- Familiarity with network and system monitoring tools and alert management.
- Ability to interpret and respond to cybersecurity indicators and events.
- Strong technical troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Proactive mindset with a focus on continuous improvement and automation.
- Ability to prioritize and handle multiple projects in parallel.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to communicate complex technical concepts to both technical and business stakeholders.
- Willingness to travel to mine sites occasionally for project rollouts or critical incidents.
- Ability to work effectively with cross-functional IT, OT, cybersecurity, and business teams to deliver secure and reliable technology solutions.
