Contractor succumbs to injuries at Hecla Lucky Friday Mine

Brandon Lloyd Gray, a 26-year-old miner critically injured at Hecla Mining's Lucky Friday mine on November 17, succumbed to his injuries early Saturday morning with his family at his side. Lucky Friday is an underground silver, lead, and zinc mine located in the Coeur d’Alene Mining District in northern Idaho. Gray, a miner since 2008, had been working for Cementation Inc. since February 2011, a company that is under contract for the construction of the mine’s #4 Shaft. “We are deeply saddened by Brandon’s passing,” said Phil Baker, President and Chief Executive Officer in a released statement.

Barrick executive to lead NovaGold; stock jumps 27 percent

Gregory A. Lang, former President of Barrick Gold of North America, accepted the position of president and chief executive officer of NovaGold Resources (TSE:NG). He starts in January. NovaGold also announced its intention to sell its 50% stake in the Galore Creek project it owns with Teck Resources, and to spin off its Ambler project, in order to focus on the company's flagship Donlin Gold project in Alaska. Markets liked the news, which was announced today. NovaGold Resources shares jumped 27% to $11.42 a share in mid-day trading.

Dia Bras confirms discovery of a large disseminated silver zone at its Cusi property

Bear Creek Mining’s stock marches up 23 percent in anticipation of feasibility study

In the last month Bear Creek's stock (CVE:BCM) has gained 23% to $5.06 a share in anticipation of the company's feasibility study for the Corani silver-lead-zinc deposit. The company says that the study will be released in early November. The pre-feasibility study said that the Corani project could produced up to 10 million ounces of silver per year. "Additionally, the Corani project is well endowed with both lead and zinc, so by-product credits will result in low or negative cash costs per ounce of silver," stated the company.

Gold Royalties Corporation agrees to acquire Yukon Royalty interests for $13.8 million

CALGARY, ALBERTA--(Marketwire - Nov. 9, 2011) - Gold Royalties Corporation is pleased to announce that it has signed a binding letter agreement with Strategic Metals Ltd. (TSX-V: SMD) ("Strategic"). Silvercorp increases dividend by 25%; announces second quarter dividend of CAD$0.025

Canadian Zinc junior reports $5.3 million loss

TVI Pacific Inc. receives notice of ordinance that would ban new open pit mining in Zamboanga del Norte

CALGARY, ALBERTA--(Marketwire - Nov. 1, 2011) - TVI Pacific Inc. (TSX:TVI) (OTCQX:TVIPF) ("TVI" or the "Company") announced today that it has been advised by its Philippine affiliate, TVI Resource Development (Phils.) Inc. ("TVIRD") that TVIRD is preparing to file a series of legal actions in Philippine courts to prevent the implementation of an Ordinance scheduled to come into effect in the Province of Zamboanga del Norte on November 6, 2011. The Ordinance, filed with no advance notice to TVIRD or TVI, purports to ban new open pit or open cut mines in the Province of Zamboanga del Norte and causes the closure process of existing such mines to begin one year from now, or November 2012. TVIRD intends to continue operating at Canatuan without disruption during this period. This Ordinance has no impact on TVIRD's gold development project at Balabag as it is in Zamboanga del Sur, a different province. Development plans continue at Balabag.

Texas gold digger finished building only mine in Saudi Arabia not owned by royals

Arabian American Development Co, announced over the weekend it has completed construction of the gold, silver and copper mine in Saudi-Arabia which it is developing with Saudi's Al-Kobra Mining Company (Amak). The Texas-based company, which owns 37% of Amak, said it will turn the facility over to the Chinese surface operator to begin operations end-November. In July Arabian American Development got a $37m injection from a fund controlled by the League of Arab States. Shareholders in the Nasdaq-listed company saw the value of their investment rise a cool $107m as a result of the transaction and over the last month stock in the 44-year old company has risen 28.5%. The mine in a Yemen border province is the only non-government mine in the Saudi kingdom and is scheduled to begin production early next year.
