Congressional hearings, tougher regulatory action anticipated in wake of West Virginia coal mine disaster

As rescue efforts are temporarily suspended at the Upper Big Branch Mine in West Virginia, the nation’s worst mine disaster in 26 years is expected to result in tougher federal actions to enforce U.S. mine safety.
