Times of India reports that diamonds have surpassed gold in the country as key objective for investment, particularly among wealthy individuals who are wary of the volatility in the prices of gold.

Following the receipt on January of information requests under the Environemtal Impact Review, De Beers has advised that they are on track to provide responses to the review by the end of the month.

An initiative by the Surat Diamond Association, the Gems and Jewellery Export Promotion Council, and the District Rural Development Agency will train poor tribal women as diamond cutters and polishers, the Times of India reports.
