A record haul of 63kg of gold was seized, valued at US$3.12 million (16.85 Crores) by India’s Directorate of Revenue Intelligence at Visakhapatnam International Airport on Monday.

Smugglers disguised gold as actual microwaves, televisions and DVD players attempting to get the precious metal into India.

The smugglers made the gold into parts of various electronic devices or durable goods to make it harder to detect. The metal would not show up on X-ray devices.

A total of 56 passengers are being investigated. Flights originated from Malaysia and Singapore.
