Imperial sees no Syncrude mine expansion by end of decade

Imperial Oil Ltd. does not see expansions taking place at the massive Syncrude oilsands mine before 2020, a spokesman for the company said Wednesday, contradicting previously announced plans to produce 600,000 barrels per day of bitumen by the end of the decade.

Pius Rolheiser said Imperial, which has a 25 per cent stake in Syncrude, is still committed to developing the entire resource, but said improving reliability of the existing operations should take priority over adding new production capacity.
