Your impact
Reporting to the Lead, Environment, Boddington, in the position of the Advisor, Environment you will be an integral part of the Environmental team and provide comprehensive support in environmental management across mine operations processing facilities, tailings facilities and biodiversity offset projects at Newmont’s Boddington mine. Beyond overseeing processing and tailings facilities, you will immerse yourself in fieldwork, managing biodiversity offsets in agricultural restoration lands and Jarrah Forest conservation areas. This balance ensures hands-on contribution to Boddington’s environmental initiatives while actively shaping the future expansion plans of the mining operations.
As part of our team you will
- Provide support and advice to the Processing and Projects teams regarding the Residue Disposal Area construction project to ensure compliance with environmental regulations and standards
- Lead day-to-day activities related to flora and fauna protection including the management of invasive and problematic species
- Contribute to the preservation and enhancement of biodiversity.
- Project manage biodiversity offset sites to meet statutory obligations and biodiversity outcomes including co-ordinating inputs from stakeholders and preparing reports.
- Identify and assess opportunities to meet biodiversity offset obligations in compliance to statutory requirements, risk, time and cost implications
- Undertake field checks of works at biodiversity offset areas
- Proactively engage to seamlessly integrate environmental considerations into all operational activities
- Conduct environmental training and awareness programs, work area inspections, contractor management engagement and report (and investigate) environmental incidents.
Prerequisites for your success in the role
- Degree qualification in Environmental Science, or related discipline
- Knowledge of state and federal legislation and standards relevant to the mining industry including permitting, monitoring and management of performance for safety, environment and social performance
- Experience in gold mining and processing operations and understanding of the associated environmental risks and management systems
- Experience in external engagement with local communities, external bodies and regulatory authorities
- Proficient in technical and legal compliance audits, gaps reporting and improvement initiatives
- Advisory capability on environmental and permitting requirements with ability to guide environmental matters and risks being incorporated into scope of works across diverse teams
- Knowledge of flora and fauna studies and/or biodiversity offsets management plans and implementation
- Experience in fieldwork including planting and seeding activities, invasive species control and fauna and flora surveys
- Full and unrestricted eligibility for employment in Australia.

Newmont Boddington is a world-class gold and copper operation located within the Saddleback greenstone belt in Western Australia, approximately 130 kilometres southeast of Perth and 16 kilometres from the rural farming town of Boddington.
Situated on 33,000 hectares of land traditionally owned by the Wiilman people of the Noongar nation, Boddington is a drive-in, drive-out site that offers employees the opportunity to live locally or in Western Australia’s southwest.
This permanent position will be offered on a 5:2, 4:3 or an 8:6 roster for the ideal candidate with village accommodation provided.
