About The Role
We are looking for a
Marine Superintendent to coordinate and optimise the transshipment operations, ensuring safe, efficient, and cost-effective movement of bulk cargo between vessels. You will play a key role in supporting marine logistics, working closely with operations teams, transshipment vessel operators, and supply chain partners to deliver excellence in bulk commodity transfer—safely and reliably.
This role is a great opportunity for someone with a strong background in marine operations and vessel coordination who is committed to safety, continuous improvement, and collaboration.
Responsibilities
- Ensure transshipment vessel operations are executed in compliance with Rio Tinto’s safety, environmental, and quality standards.
- Coordinate with transshipment operator, port team, shipping agents, surveyors, and marine assurance to manage vessel berthing, cargo transfers, and the integrated planning/scheduling operations.
- Monitor real-time operations, troubleshoot issues, and escalate risks or delays to stakeholders.
- Provide technical oversight on transshipment equipment, barge configuration, and vessel interface planning.
- Analyse operational data and contribute to reporting on performance, demurrage exposure, and cost efficiency.
- Champion HSE practices in all marine logistics operations, ensuring zero harm to people and the environment.
- Support audit readiness and compliance with international maritime regulations (e.g., SOLAS, MARPOL, ISM).
- Handle complaints/claims from transshipment operators/ocean going vessels/port
- Engage in continuous improvement initiatives focused on logistics performance, cost optimisation, and digitalisation of marine activities.
- Develop and maintain comprehensive Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for the transshipment operations process, ensuring safety, efficiency, and regulatory compliance
- Perform other related duties or assignments as directed
Requirement
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Nautical Science, Supply Chain, or related field (or equivalent work experience).
- 5+ years of experience in marine logistics, port operations, and/or vessel coordination.
- Deep understanding of transshipment operations, cargo handling, and marine safety protocols.
- Good understanding of shipping documentation
- Familiarity with marine logistics software, AIS tracking, MS Word, MS Excel, MS Powerpoint, and scheduling platforms.
- Excellent French and English verbal and written communication and stakeholder management skills.

About The Simandou Project
The Simandou Iron Ore Project is located in the Republic of Guinea, West Africa. It is Africa’s largest infrastructure and mining project and represents one of the largest known reserves of high-grade iron ore in the world.
Rio Tinto holds rights to Simandou Blocks 3 and 4 through SimFer, a joint venture between the Government of the Republic of Guinea, Rio Tinto and Chalco Iron Ore Holdings (CIOH). Construction of the mine, together with the associated rail and port infrastructure, is well underway with first production from the SimFer mine expected in 2025.
