Your impact
Reporting to the Director, Environment, Boddington, in the position of Specialist, Environment and Permitting, you will lead environmental permitting and assessment activities, support regulatory compliance, contribute to high-quality technical studies and support delivery of environmental projects and improvement initiatives, in collaboration with consultants, regulators and internal stakeholders, for Newmont’s Boddington mine operations.
As part of our team you will
- Lead the planning, coordination and delivery of environmental permitting and approval processes for site activities and projects in alignment with Newmont’s permitting and approvals standard and guidance
- Manage environmental assessment programs including scoping, scheduling, consultant engagement, and regulatory submissions
- Coordinate environmental project activities at site level including engagement of consultants, preparation of documentation and oversight of deliverables to ensure quality and compliance
- Oversee field programs and data collection associated with environmental assessments and studies to ensure technical quality and alignment with permitting and project requirements
- Review consultant reports and assessment outcomes for technical accuracy and consistency with regulatory and corporate standards
- Coordinate communication and engagement with regulators to support timely review and approval of environmental submissions
- Monitor progress of permits and approvals and maintain accurate records of conditions, deliverables and compliance obligations for alignment with Boddington’s permitting approach
- Facilitate and coordinate reviews of environmental assessments, permits and project documentation by internal and external subject matter experts to ensure quality and alignment with regulatory requirements
- Deliver and support environmental projects, programs and improvement initiatives that enhance site environmental performance and compliance
- Prepare reports, briefings and presentations on permitting status, environmental assessments and project performance to support management routines (i.e. MPR).
Prerequisites for your success in the role
- Tertiary qualification in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering or a related discipline
- Technical capability across Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) processes including baseline study design, impact evaluation and regulatory submission requirements
- Knowledge of environmental permitting and approval frameworks including local, state and federal regulatory systems
- Understanding of legislative and regulatory requirements relevant to environmental management, land disturbance, water, waste and air quality
- Proven experience in mining with solid understanding of associated environmental risks, approvals and management systems in mine processing
- Skills in project management fundamentals including planning, contractor engagement and delivery of environmental projects
- Knowledge of principles and application of environmental monitoring and data quality assurance for field programs and assessments
- Experience in stakeholder and regulatory engagement processes related to environmental approvals and compliance
- Proficient in technical writing and review of environmental documentation including EIA reports, management plans and regulatory submissions
- Exposure to change management, risk management and continuous improvement processes applied to environmental systems
- Full and unrestricted eligibility for employment in Australia.
Your work environment
This permanent position will be offered on a flexible work arrangement based out of Newmont’s Perth capital city office in Subiaco, and will ideally suit applicants currently living in Perth, Western Australia. Travel to Newmont’s Boddington mine site operations about 130 km south of Perth will be required on an ad hoc, as needed basis.
