About Cadia
Our Cadia Valley Operation in New South Wales is situated about 25 kilometers from Orange and 250 kilometers west of Sydney. Cadia produces gold doré bars from a gravity circuit and gold-rich copper concentrates from a flotation circuit. The operation includes the Cadia East Mine which is globally renowned for its use of block caving, a large-scale underground mining method.

Who we’re looking for
Reporting to the Metallurgy Supervisor, the Plant Metallurgist will be working across Cadia’s processing department, including the copper gold concentrator and molybdenum plant. The role will monitor current operational performance and address metallurgical issues through providing recommendations for future operational, metallurgical & safety improvements.
Key responsibilities:
- Develop a detailed understanding of the process flow sheet and assist with daily troubleshooting and optimisation.
- Assist with planning & delivery of budget revenue by meeting or exceeding Cadia Ore Processing production targets.
- Assist with minimising the Cadia Ore Processing cost base by strategically minimising consumables consumption. Maintain discipline by accurate reporting of consumption rates monthly.
- Support accuracy and reliability of plant instruments for process and metallurgical accounting.
- Coordinate site visits from suppliers and consultants to ensure operation of the process plant meets best metallurgical and operational practice.
- Complete daily metallurgical accounting duties and plant forecasts as required.
- An active involvement in processing plant commissioning tasks, providing robust product for the operating team and delivering on expected performance gains. This involves project and people management duties across different departments and stakeholders both internal and external.
- Identification and rapid implementation of improvement opportunities, actively seeking opportunities for increased free cash flow and reduced costs. This includes conducting financial evaluation of projects, executing feasibility works, capital investment submissions and managing of any resourcing required for the project.
- Prepares, scopes and carries out laboratory, plant test work and surveys as required.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate the Newmont Values and display the necessary analytical skills to logically interpret data from test work and trials and communicate outcomes to the operations team.
You will also possess the following:
- Degree in Metallurgy, Mineral Processing, Chemical Engineering or as decided relevant discipline
- Exposure in a mining operation OR a processing plant
- Australian Manual Drivers Licence
