Reporting to Coordinator – Apprenticeship & Graduates, the Training Specialist – Refrigeration & Air Conditioning will oversee the Refrigeration & Air Conditioning apprenticeship training to ensure apprentices gain the practical and theoretical skills needed to install, service, troubleshoot, and repair refrigeration and air-conditioning systems safely and to industry standards. Key roles include developing training plans in Competence Based Education & Training (CBET) curricula aligned to TEVETA, and Occupational Health Safety & Environmental (OSHE) standards by preparing lesson materials and practical assessments, coaching apprentices in workshops and on-site placements. Will monitor learner progress through continuous assessments.
Your duties will include but are not limited to the following:
- Plan and deliver classroom and practical workshop training in RAC installation, maintenance, fault-finding, repairs, and commissioning.
- Develop and maintain competency-based schemes of work, lesson plans, practical exercises, and learning resources aligned to national/industry occupational standards.
- Design and administer formative/summative assessments (tests, practical tasks, trade tests), moderate results, and keep evidence/portfolios for certification.
- Provide continuous guidance, remedial support, and career mentorship; track individual learning plans and progress.
- Liaise with employers and worksite supervisors to align on-the-job training with program outcomes; schedule site visits and verify workplace competencies.
- Ensure training meets accreditation requirements; participate in audits, reviews, and continuous improvement activities.
- Enforce OHS standards, safe tool use, electrical safety, and environmentally responsible refrigerant handling/recovery, conduct safety briefings and incident reporting.
- Maintain tools, training rigs, gauges, recovery machines, and consumables; calibrate instruments and ensure workshop readiness.
- Maintain attendance, assessment records, logbooks, progress reports, and employer feedback; submit timely reports to management/stakeholders.
- Keep current with RAC technologies (inverters, controls, refrigerants, energy efficiency) and integrate updates into training.
- Support recruitment/selection of apprentices, onboarding, employer engagement, and apprenticeship completion/placement processes.
To be considered for the position, you must meet the following requirements:
- Full Grade 12 School Certificate
- Diploma In Refrigeration & Airconditioning from a recognised learning institution.
- Diploma in Teaching Methodology from a recognised learning institution.
- Minimum 2 to 3 years’ work experience in a similar role.
- TEVETA accreditation be an added advantage.
- Valid registration with the Engineering Institute of Zambia (EIZ).
