Job description:
PURPOSE
Manage, analysing and visualising geospatial and environmental databases, automate reporting workflows to support environmental projects and decision-making.
Creating and maintaining GIS database, conducting spatial analyses like modelling and pattern identification, developing maps and visualisation, and collaborating with other teams to integrate spatial data into projects workflows.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
This position will be required to adhere to all relevant requirements, policies, procedures and regulations pertaining to health, safety, environment and quality, as well as finance, human resources, and any other regulations as required by the company and relevant to the level of the role and responsibilities of the function.
• Take leadership role in departmental software system design, testing and implementation
• Automate reporting using Power BI, Excel macros and PHP tools
• Create high-quality maps and visualization to present geospatial information in a clear and informative manner for the team and stakeholders
• Integrate GIS data with environmental datasets to gain comprehensive understanding of environmental processes and interpretation
• Assist in interpreting data to inform and support evidence-based environmental management strategies
• Stay current with the latest GIS technologies, trends, and best practices relevant to environmental applications.
• Development of monitoring mapping for monitoring team interpret and continually track monitoring progress
• Set annual data and mapping targets
• Provide basic training and support to internal users and stakeholders and highlight where additional training support is required – Provide technical support and training to colleagues on GIS, software, tools and database management
• Document methodologies and finding to ensure transparency, reproducility and Compliance
• Quality assurance and daily upload of field data, laboratory reports, quality assurance of chain of custody, database field sensors verification, and external database monitoring, and labeling data automatic sensors and collaborate with appropriate site team to facilitate timely interventions and maintenance
• Make data driven recommendations to improve departmental operations
• Develop, implement, and maintain databases, data collection systems, data transmission.
• Supporting the execution of ISO 14001 Environmental Management System by aligning database and ensuring statutory data management compliance
• Collation of accurate data and its analysis for internal and external reporting.
• Perform any additional responsibilities as may be assigned by superiors duly authorized to him/her.
QUALIFICATIONS
• Minimum Qualification: Bachelor’s Degree in the following:
- Computer Science
- Geographic Information Systems (GIS)
- Information Technology
- Environmental Engineering/Sciences
- Chemical Engineering
- And related qualifications with relevant experience.
• All academic qualifications must be certified by Zambia Qualifications Authority (ZAQA)
EXPERIENCE
• Over 5 years of professional experience.
• Proficient in GIS software, remote sensing, modeling, data analysis, and scripting languages such as Python and R.
• Skilled in analytical chemistry, computer programming, and data and quality management.
• Hands-on experience in mining operations and environmental monitoring.

• Minimal physical demands.
• Strong analytical skills; proficiency in GIS; computer literate with Microsoft Office packages (Power BI, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.); skilled in computer programming.
• Excellent communication abilities, with the capacity to present complex data clearly to diverse stakeholders.
• Strong writing skills, essential for preparing detailed and accurate reports.
• Ability to walk and stand as required.
• Must be able to perform duties in all weather conditions.
