Job Description Summary
The Specialist Instrumentation will be responsible for providing engineering support to ensure safe, efficient and profitable smelter operations. He/she will be accountable for smelter instrumentation, engineering support and assistance to operations and to other disciplines in the area of responsibility for the entire smelter as per legal appointment. This role will involve working closely with other engineers, managers and site personnel to design, install and commission instrumentation systems.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Provide technical expertise in instrumentation engineering;
- Be a team player in the instrumentation section and comply with all KMP Health and Safety requirements, and promote the FQM way, apply standards and follow procedures
- Provide engineering maintenance support through installations, improvement projects, fault analysis, fault finding and ensuring that both company and vendor safety and quality standards are adhered to, whilst ensuring minimum disruption to the smelter plant operation and production
- Perform fault analysis in order to eliminate re-occurrences of repetitive faults and improve process efficiency, equipment reliability, and repeatability.
- Maintain documentation and calibrations, loop drawings, schematic drawings, manuals, SOP’s, and any other to ensure compliancy to instrumentation standards.
- Adhere to the company planned and preventative maintenance schedules and procedures, and revise planned maintenance schedules in order to achieve effective planned maintenance on instrumentation equipment installed.
- Adhere to all statutory compliance regulations and procedures, as per the Mine Safety Regulations, implementing and executing audits and reviews instruments such as nuclear and oxygen equipment.
- Review all instrumentation task procedures and risk assessments.
- Address all process control system instrumentation failures, investigate, and resolve failures.
- Manage and execute all improvement projects, complying to industry installation standards with respect to equipment specifications, type of technology and applications, quality and documentation.
- Support cost and equipment management of instrumentation budget through direct line manager by:
- Aligning and controlling costs in area of responsibility, according to the operational business plan and budget.
- Managing critical spares and reviewing stock holding in stores.
- Prepare and estimate materials, tools, equipment, consumables and spare parts necessary to execute projects from approved plant change requests.
- Provide support in vendor and contract management of the instrumentation section, assisting the direct line manager - ensure adequate record keeping of all company and vendor-related documentation.
- Adhere to the government and FQMs skills development/knowledge transfer and actively participate in the personal development plans of local staff.
- Effectively interact with senior specialists, senior supervisors, supervisors, shift supervisors, instrumentation technicians and other operational, technical and engineering disciplines providing effective assistance, and support to production, processing team, and other engineering teams in support to the direct line manager.
Qualifications
- Degree or diploma in electrical engineering (instrumentation) or relevant field.
- ERB registration – Professional engineer / professional technologist.
- Preferred certification – certified Profibus engineer.
Experience
- At least 20 years role experience as specialist / senior, with extensive exposure to various instrumentation equipment, and technology and various equipment applications.
- At least 10 years direct exposure projects experience in project execution details will be preferred.
- Siemens PCS7 experience, Siemens S7-300 controller experience with proven exposure details will be preferred.
- At least 15 years experience in management, senior supervisor or coordinator level
- Proven analyzer experience with technology details will be preferred.
- Compressor experience.
- Burner management experience.
- Weighing application experience.
- Bentley Nevada controller, and vibration experience
- Safety critical systems experience.
