Your impact
You will support safe and efficient open pit mining operations by managing drilling and blasting activities aligned with production goals. Working closely with site operations and technical teams, you will contribute to mine planning, optimise blast performance, and support continuous improvement across the operation.
As part of our team you will
- Develop, review, and optimise drill and blast designs to achieve effective fragmentation while minimising vibration, air blast, and fly rock
- Collaborate with geology, mining, and production teams to integrate drill and blast plans with the overall mine plan and production targets
- Support and oversee daily drilling and blasting activities, ensuring safe, efficient execution and compliance with approved designs
- Monitor drilling accuracy and blast performance, completing post-blast reviews and identifying opportunities for improvement
- Prepare and maintain required documentation and permits, ensuring compliance with safety, environmental, regulatory, and company standards
- Promote a strong safety culture, supporting incident investigations, corrective actions, and continuous improvement initiatives
- Assist with the coordination and efficient use of resources, including personnel, equipment, and explosives
Prerequisites for your success in the role
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in a mining engineering role
- Relevant tertiary qualification in Mining or Civil Engineering (or equivalent trade/technical qualification)
- Strong practical, site-based experience with applied knowledge of mining processes, equipment, and systems
- Drill and blast experience highly regarded
- Experience using mine planning and engineering software, including:
– Vulcan
– Orica ShotPlus - Exposure to CAT Autonomous Haulage Systems highly regarded
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a site-based team environment
Your work environment
This is a full-time, permanent opportunity at Newmont’s Boddington Gold Mine in Western Australia, working within a large-scale open pit operation on an 8/6 roster. Village accommodation is available for the ideal candidate.
You’ll join a supportive, site-based technical and operations team, gaining hands-on exposure to modern mining systems, equipment, and autonomous haulage technologies, in an environment focused on safety, performance, and continuous improvement.
