OBJECTIVE OF THE ROLE
We are seeking an experienced Manager – Occupational Health & Safety (OHS) to lead the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of site-wide safety systems and strategies. This role is responsible for embedding a proactive safety culture, ensuring regulatory and international compliance, and enabling safe, efficient, and sustainable operations.
ROLE ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Lead and maintain the site OHS Management System aligned with legal and ISO standards.
- Provide strategic safety leadership to management and operational teams.
- Drive risk identification, audits, inspections, and incident investigations.
- Champion behavioural safety programmes and workforce training initiatives.
- Oversee emergency preparedness planning and regular response drills.
- Monitor safety KPIs and deliver executive and regulatory reporting.
- Engage with authorities, contractors, and stakeholders on compliance matters.
- Manage departmental strategy, budgets, staffing, and capability development.
ROLE REQUIREMENTS
Education & Qualification
- Bachelor’s Degree in OHS, Engineering, or related field.
- Internationally recognised OHS certification (e.g., NEBOSH).
- Knowledge of in-country OHS legislation.
Experience
- Minimum 10 years’ experience, including 5+ years in senior OHS leadership.
- Proven exposure to mining or extractive industries and full operational environments.
Knowledge & Skills
- ISO 45001 / ISO 31000 implementation.
- Risk management, hazard identification, and accident investigation.
- Emergency response planning and safety audits.
- Strong communication, leadership, and stakeholder management.
- Commercial and financial awareness with data-driven decision making.
