Newmont Suriname was established in 2004 as an entity of Newmont Mining Corporation and is headquartered in Paramaribo, Suriname. Located in South America, Suriname was originally settled as a Dutch colony, is very culturally diverse and enjoys a tropical climate. The Merian Project is located approximately 60 km south of Moengo in a largely undeveloped part of the country with the nearest permanent settlement, Langa Tabiki, approximately 17 km east from the Project site. Strong support from host communities and the government of Suriname strengthen Merian's ability to deliver safe, profitable production with significant upside potential and opportunity for employees, host communities and shareholders.
Purpose
Coordinate the preparation, execution, and improvement of emergency response plans and procedures including emergency drills and compliance.
Essential Duties
- Support in the preparation and execution of emergency response plans and procedures, ensuring alignment with site-specific needs and regulatory requirements
- Perform regular inspections and maintenance checks of emergency response equipment, such as fire extinguishers, first aid kits, and emergency vehicles, to ensure they are in good working order
- Engage in emergency drills and simulations, helping to prepare and conduct these exercises and deliver feedback for continuous improvement
- Deliver training and guidance to site personnel on emergency response protocols, including the proper use of emergency equipment and evacuation procedures
- Assist incident investigations by collecting information, recording findings, and supporting in the preparation of corrective actions to prevent future emergencies
Training & Experience
Knowledge:
- Certification in fire and rescue, medical response or other emergency response discipline
- Industry recognized emergency response systems, standards and processes
- Relevant regulations and compliance requirements
- Communication and Influencing skills
- Risk Management processes
- Emergency incident management
- Other specialized Knowledge: Advanced first aido, Fire and rescue, Hazardous material management
Technical skills:
- Competent proficiency in implementing occupational emergency response systems
- Foundational proficiency in managing and applying operational risk management processes
- Foundational proficiency in implementing emergency response standards, best-fit practices, monitoring processes, regulatory compliance
- Advanced proficiency in executing emergency response activities
- Foundational commercial skills: budgets, forecasting, planning, analysis, reporting and communicating result
