The New Porgera Limited now has a vacancy for a qualified and experienced individual as Project Estimator.
About The Role
Reporting to the Superintendent Engineering Projects, the Project Estimator will play a critical role in ensuring cost accuracy across the full capital project lifecycle—from early-stage gate submissions through to final Approval for Expenditures (AFE). The Project Estimator will provide detailed cost estimates, review project changes, and ensure robust financial inputs into the organisation’s capital portfolio.
In This Role, You Will
- Develop and maintain an estimating tool based on schedule of rates
- Conduct detailed reviews of engineering deliverables, scopes of work, project schedules, and execution plans
- Prepare accurate material take-offs (MTOs), cost plans, and estimates for stage gate submissions and AFEs
- Produce detailed cost reports, analysis, and supporting documentation for stakeholders
- Work closely with Supply & Purchasing teams on Request for Quotations and streamlined procurement processes
- Support the establishment and maintenance of preferred vendor lists
- Review all capital project costs and ensure lifecycle cost contingencies are incorporated
- Coordinate and consolidate estimation inputs across business units
- Mentor and guide project personnel on estimating best practices
- Review project changes, variations, and tender bids, providing recommendations
- Assist project managers in assembling preliminary budgets for capital portfolio submissions
About You
You are a detail driven and analytical professional with deep experience in project cost estimation within major resource, infrastructure, or industrial sectors.
To Be Successful, You Will Have
- Minimum 10 years’ experience as a project cost estimator within mining, oil & gas, or major infrastructure (PNG or Australia highly regarded)
- Qualifications in Quantity Surveying, Engineering, Project Management, or an extensive trades background
- Strong ability to interpret technical documents, scopes of work, engineering drawings, and project schedules
- A methodical approach to developing material take-offs and cost estimates
- Experience with project life cycles and lifecycle costing methodologies
- Demonstrated experience working collaboratively across multiple departments
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders on estimation accuracy and risk
- Previous PNG estimation experience (highly regarded
Mobilization Requirement
This is a PNG National position, a site-based role on a FIFO arrangement with a rotation of 21 days on and 14 days off. Candidates must successfully pass a pre-employment medical, including drug and alcohol screening (to be arranged only for successful candidates after the interview stage), and provide an up-to-date Police Clearance Certificate (acquired within the last 6 months).
