The New Porgera Limited now has a vacancy for a qualified and experienced individual to join our Mineral Resources Department as
Geologist- Underground.
About The Role
Reporting to the Senior Underground Geologist, the Underground Geologist is responsible for supporting and developing the orebody definition through underground mapping, sampling, data interpretation, and reconciliation. This role plays a key part in ensuring efficient resource extraction by providing timely and accurate geological information to mine planning and operations teams.
In This Role, You Will
- Conduct underground geological mapping and face sampling
- Ensure accurate and timely geological data capture using mine software and databases.
- Log and sample underground diamond drill core (if applicable).
- Update 3D geological models in coordination with resource geologists.
- Communicate geological information to mine operations to support production and development activities.
- Monitor ore and waste boundaries and ensure compliance with mine design.
- Assist in ore mark-ups and dilution control.
- Liaise with survey and engineering teams to ensure alignment of plans and geological reality.
- Contribute to daily, weekly, and monthly geological reports and reconciliation of mined material vs. resource models.
- Monitor ore production to ensure grade and tonnage targets are met.
- Contribute to the improvement of geological systems, processes, and standards.
- Provide feedback and suggestions for improved ore control and data collection practices.
- Maintain a high level of health, safety and environmental awareness and comply with all relevant NPL policies & procedures.
About You
To succeed in this role, the ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications and experiences:
- Bachelor’s degree in Geology, Geoscience, or a related field
- Minimum 2–3 years’ experience in an underground mining environment.
- Strong skills in underground mapping and sampling.
- Proficiency in geological software such as Datamine, Leapfrog, Deswik or similar.
- Familiarity with mining operations and ore control practices.
- Experience with underground diamond drilling programs.
- Knowledge of resource modeling and reconciliation practices.
- Previous experience with mine site databases (e.g., acQuire, Datashed).
Mobilization Requirement
This is a PNG National position, a site-based role on a FIFO arrangement with a rotation of 21 days on and 14 days off. Candidates must successfully pass a pre-employment medical, including drug and alcohol screening (to be arranged only for successful candidates after the interview stage), and provide an up-to-date Police Clearance Certificate (acquired within the last 6 months).
