The New Porgera Limited now has a vacancy for qualified and experienced individuals for the position of
Community Relations Officer.
About The Role
The Community Relations Officer acts as the primary interface between NPL and local communities, supporting the company’s social license to operate through effective stakeholder engagement, grievance management, community development processes, land access and compensations processes, community development support and clear communication of company policies, commitments and decisions.
In this role, you will.
- Engage actively with different key stakeholder engagement programs on a day-to-day basis.
- Negotiate and mediate with key stakeholders on community development projects.
- Assist lands staff in witnessing and facilitating (identification, dispute resolution) payments.
- Provide supervision and assistance, including resolution of work delaying incidents, to community or mining projects implemented by NPL.
- Assist NPL Departments in Porgera, Paiela, and Lower Porgera and along the highway when required.
- Assist and mediate with other sections on different grievances raised by the communities that are culturally difficult to resolve.
- Relay company information clearly and without bias.
- Proactively identify emerging community issues and communicate them clearly and promptly to the Superintendent with suggestions for resolution.
- Liaise between NPL and local community.
- Maintain a high level of health and safety awareness and comply with the PJV Occupational Health & Safety Policy and all health and safety rules and procedures.

Qualifications & Experience
- Minimum Grade 10 education.
- High level of verbal and written communication skills.
- At least three (3) years’ field experience in community ‑ based or stakeholder engagement work.
- Sound knowledge of the laws, customs, and traditions of Porgera, Enga, and Papua New Guinea.
- Strong familiarity with people, villages, and locations in Porgera, Paiela, and Lower Porgera.
- Demonstrated community leadership skills within the Porgera area.
- Fluency in Ipili, Enga, and Tok Pisin.
- Strong mediation, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills.
- Computer literacy in Microsoft Office suite
- Current Police Clearance Certificate.
Desirable
Qualification in Social Science, Development, Anthropology, Communications, Law, Land Management, or similar fields is preferable
Mobilization Requirement
This is a designated local position on a 5:2 roster.
