Position Overview
The Vice President, Strategic Planning is a newly created senior leadership role responsible for elevating and integrating Coeur Mining’s enterprise‑wide strategic planning capabilities as the company enters its next phase of growth. Reporting directly to the Chief Operating Officer, this role will design, enhance, and lead Coeur’s Strategic Planning Process—an established, annual, and quarterly business‑planning cadence that aligns corporate objectives, operational plans, and long‑range value creation.
The VP will build and lead a new Strategic Planning team and will work in close partnership with Operations, Finance, Projects & Technical Services, Exploration, and Corporate Development to drive disciplined, transparent, and data‑driven strategic decision‑making across the organization.
Key Responsibilities
Enterprise Strategic Planning Leadership
- Lead and continually improve Coeur’s formal Strategic Planning Process, advancing rigor, tools, governance, and cross‑functional alignment.
- Design and execute multi‑year strategic roadmaps that support Coeur’s operational and corporate growth objectives and capital allocation strategy.
- Facilitate strategic scoping workshops and planning sessions with senior leadership to frame scenarios, strategic options, and long‑range priorities.
- Ensure strategic plans integrate key business inputs from mine plans, financial forecasts, project development studies, exploration programs, and corporate development opportunities.
Cross‑Functional Integration & Collaboration
- Work with Operations and Technical Services to incorporate production assumptions, LOM plans, and performance expectations.
- Collaborate with Projects to align major project timelines, cost estimates, and risk profiles with strategic scenarios.
- Coordinate with Exploration and Corporate Development to embed resource growth, regional strategies, and M&A intelligence into long‑range planning models.
- Partner closely with Finance to align strategic plans with budget cycles, capital allocation frameworks, and long‑range financial models.
- Drive a unified, enterprise‑wide view of Coeur’s growth pathway.
Strategic Analysis, Modeling & Insights
- Oversee development and validation of long‑range models, production schedules, and enterprise value scenarios.
- Lead market, competitor, commodity, and industry benchmarking and trend analysis to inform strategic recommendations.
- Translate complex technical, financial, and operational data into clear, actionable insights for executive leadership and the Board.
Governance, Risk & Decision Support
- Establish frameworks and tools to enable consistent strategic evaluations, trade‑off analyses, and risk assessments.
- Identify strategic risks and opportunities across Coeur’s portfolio and propose mitigation or value‑enhancing strategies.
- Ensure alignment with corporate governance requirements and support decision‑making at the COO and Executive Leadership Team level.
Team Leadership & Organizational Development
- Build and lead a high‑performing Strategic Planning team, including hiring, mentoring, and capability development.
- Champion a culture of transparency, collaboration, curiosity, analytical rigor, and continuous improvement.
- Support development of planning competencies across operating sites and corporate functions.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Geology, Finance, Business, Mining, or a related field.
- Minimum 20 years of progressive experience in strategic planning, corporate planning, technical services, operations planning, corporate development, or similar roles within the mining or natural resources sector.
- Demonstrated expertise in long‑range mine planning, portfolio analysis, or integrated business planning.
- Strong analytical and modelling skills with the ability to challenge, validate, and reconcile complex assumptions.
- Proven leadership experience building teams and working cross‑functionally with technical and corporate groups.
- Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to simplify complex analysis and influence executive‑level decision-making.
Preferred
- MBA or advanced technical degree.
- Experience with Life‑of‑Mine planning, mineral reserves/resources processes, or mining project development.
- Familiarity with valuation models, scenario optimization, and strategic production planning tools.
- Experience in public‑company governance and presenting to senior leadership or Boards.
Success Metrics
- Delivery of an integrated, transparent, repeatable Strategic Planning Process aligned with Coeur’s planning calendar.
- Improved cross‑functional alignment between Operations, Finance, Exploration, Projects, and Corporate Development.
- Production of high‑quality strategic models and insights that materially influence resource allocation and growth decisions.
- Increased strategic capability and maturity across the organization.
- Clear communication of strategic pathways to the COO, ELT, and Board.
- Demonstrated contribution to long‑term value creation and risk reduction.
