Your Next Challenge
Reporting to the Manager – Mining, you will be part of the Mine Department. Given the remote location and scale of the operations, you may be required to broaden their scope of responsibilities and demonstrate proficiency and autonomy in relevant areas. You will lead the underground mining operations to achieve the common goal of analyzing, maintaining and optimizing productivity and profitability of the operation. You will also ensure that the goal and objectives are achieved while promoting and respecting Agnico Eagle’s culture, Health & Safety Code of Conduct and the environment.
- Lead day-to-day operations for the Underground Mine, lead by example and build a safe, and strong employee culture;
- Plan, direct and coordinate the activities of underground mining operations employees in a safe, environmentally sound and efficient manner, either personally or through subordinate supervisors;
- Develop yearly departmental objectives and strategy aligned with corporation and division goals;
- Monitor operational performance, including costs, productivity, safety indicators, and workforce engagement;
- Collaborate with internal departments to establish, monitor and achieve production targets, quality standards and optimization projects;
- Set priorities, plan and direct underground mining activities by leveraging best available technologies and practices to ensure effective and efficient mining operations and cost control;
- Review operational and production data to identify variances, determine root causes, and implement corrective actions;
- Develop and implement procedures to resolve operational challenges, improve efficiency and enhance ore quality;
- Coordinate closely with the Maintenance, Procurement, Engineering, Geology, Human Resources and Health & Safety teams to ensure adequate staffing, equipment availability and operational readiness;
- Manage, coach, and develop direct reports to strengthen leadership capability and workforce management;
- Ensure compliance with all applicable Agnico Eagle policies, standards, and regulatory requirements;
- Assist in the development and preparation of capital and operating budgets;
- Work with vendors and suppliers to ensure effective use of materials, equipment, and support services;
- Provide input into short‑term and long‑term mine planning processes;
- Oversee investigations involving safety incidents, accidents and near misses;
- Ensure that reports are completed accurately and in a timely manner.
What You Need To Succeed
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mining Engineering or equivalent;
- 10 years of experience in directing underground mining operations;
- Exposure to permafrost, remote mine sites and mine start-up to production ramp-up is considered an asset;
- Leadership, interpersonal, organizational and conflict resolution skills;
- Excellent working knowledge of all Microsoft Office software especially Outlook, Excel, Word & PowerPoint, knowledge of Deswik is considered an asset.
Note that the official working language at our Hope Bay Project is English.

- Schedule: flexible schedules available (7x7, 10x10, 14x14);
- Accommodations and meals are provided on site at no cost to the employee. Agnico Eagle provides charter flights to and from the mine site and will accommodate to cover other travelling expenses according to your location of residence in Canada.
