Your Next Challenge
Reporting to the Production & Exploration Supervisors, you will be part of the Geology Department. You will be responsible for collecting underground chip and muck samples, processing and sampling/cutting diamond drill core, and entering geological data. You will also ensure that goals and objectives are achieved while promoting and respecting Agnico Eagle’s values, Health & Safety Code of Conduct, and the environment.
- Collect chip and muck samples underground following all company safety procedures;
- Enter geological data such as muck tags and chip samples, digitize face maps, assist with geology reports and other geological data entry;
- Sample stockpiles and transport samples to the laboratory;
- Pickup drill core from headframe/drill site, open boxes and arrange in order while checking for block footage errors and proper labelling;
- Bag cut core, whole core samples, or pulps in accordance with established procedures;
- Palletize/dump logged and sampled core boxes;
- Maintain good housekeeping at all times, ensure proper PPE and tools are used for all tasks;
- Operate forklift as per proper training, moving core skids with core or samples and other materials;
- Take part in storing pulps and rejects as required;
- Work closely with geologists, contractors, and team members to ensure projects are executed safely, efficiently, and on schedule;
- Assist geologists as required with other tasks as assigned.
What You Need To Succeed
- Minimum Grade 12 Dipolma or GED/CAEC. A geological technician diploma is an asset;
- Valid Driver’s License;
- Previous experience involved with handling and cutting drill core in a mine or exploration setting or work underground collecting samples;
- Good communication skills, literacy and numeracy skills;
- Self starter with the ability to manage repetitive tasks with minimal supervision;
- Physically fit with ability to lift upwards of 55 lbs;
- Proven commitment to safety, health and environmental best practice;
- Excellent working knowledge of all Microsoft Office Suite applications, especially Outlook, Excel, Word & PowerPoint.
