With one of the most successful exploration records in the Central African Copper Belt, Ivanhoe Mines has established the Western Forelands as a new and highly prospective copper district for Tier 1 discoveries. We are now inviting applications from senior exploration professionals to take a leading role in advancing the Makoko discovery and surrounding targets—combining strategic oversight, hands‑on technical leadership, and participate in the management of large, diverse multi‑disciplinary exploration teams. This role offers the opportunity to guide advanced exploration in one of the most prospective sedimentary copper belts in the world, supported by strong budgets, experienced teams, and a proven exploration philosophy.
Play your part in our team succeeding...- To assist with the management, both administrative and technical, of exploration work in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
- To contribute to future exploration discoveries on Ivanhoe Mines exploration licenses.
- To support the improvement in geological data collection and interpretation by mentoring and training the geological team
- To actively manage best practice guidelines aligned with Ivanhoe’s SOPs for exploration planning, diamond drilling, geological data acquisition and processing, and geological modelling.
- To develop a comprehensive understanding of the geological controls on mineralisation at the Makoko Project and across the wider Western Foreland by applying advanced Basin Analysis and Sequence Stratigraphy methods, structural framework, innovative geochemical analyses, and novel geophysical techniques to constrain the exploration search space.
- To manage the compilation of advanced geological reports and presentations on project geology and mineralisation, utilising internal resources, external consultants, and research institutions.

- Post graduate degree in applied geology
- Valid Driver’s License
- Fluency in English
- 10- 15 years of related industry experience in exploration and mining with extensive field-based exploration experience, with international work exposure
- Sedimentary Hosted Copper Experience
- Experience in exploration management and geological interpretation utilizing advanced
- geological exploration software packages
- Geological data synthesis and interpretation using the Mineral Systems Analysis and, strategic analysis, and target generation
- Cross-functional collaboration and collaborative interpretation, advanced technical writing and oral presentation skills.
- Experience of developing and mentoring junior geologists and helping them realise their potential
- Regulatory awareness, cultural sensitivity and cross-cultural communication, local engagement, adaptability.
You will have advanced skills and knowledge in:

Technical Skills should include:
- Advanced and technical writing skills in English.
- Employee shall be proficient in the MS suite
- Technical Software; ArcGIS, Leapfrog, acQuire, relational databases, other application as specified.

- Assist and support regional and project scale exploration
- Drive effective problem solving and continuous improvement
- Deliver on the operating plan by supporting diamond core drilling
