As exploration intensity accelerates across the Western Foreland license package, we are seeking an experienced Exploration Manager to help lead the next phase of discovery, advancing the Makoko Project while applying the same disciplined, science‑driven exploration approach that has defined Ivanhoe’s success in the DRC over the last 2 decades.
Play your part in our team succeeding...- To manage all exploration activities, including administrative and budgeting, across the Western Foreland license package in the DRC, to facilitate the drill out of the Makoko Project and enable the discovery of new copper resources.
- To facilitate comprehensive understanding of the geological controls on mineralisation at the Makoko Project and across the wider Western Forelands.
- To guide and ensure all exploration-related industry best‑practice guidelines and Ivanhoe Mines standard operating procedures (SOPs) are consistently applied in the field and core management areas.
- To establish annual exploration work programmes, manage and control annual budgets for exploration contractors operating across all related exploration companies and joint venture (JV) partnerships for the Western Foreland land package.
- To actively engage with the Makoko Project team to progress extension and infill drilling at the Makoko and Kitoko resources, supporting the development of the project in line with the approved project planning schedule.
- To provide technical, logistical and other support services to the Makoko Project team as required.
- To ensure that the Western Foreland exploration team is competently staffed through ongoing recruitment, staff development and retention strategies working closely with Ivanhoe Mines Human Resources Department.
- To lead, train, supervise, mentor, and guide the Western Foreland operational and technical teams.
- To ensure the archiving of intellectual property / exploration “DNA” through the completion of advanced geological reports.
- To assist Ivanhoe Mines’ Corporate Development and Investor Relations departments with presentation materials and communication of exploration results, including participation in investor site visits as required.

- Post Graduate degree in Applied Geology, Business Administration or related field
- Valid Driver's License
- Fluency in English
- Expatriate Experience
- 15-20 years of related industry experience in exploration and mining with at least 10 years of field-based exploration experience.
- Sedimentary-hosted Stratiform Copper (SSC) experience required, with a strong understanding of Sedimentary Basin Analysis and controls on mineralisation.
- Central African Copper Belt experience in either Zambia or the DRC preferable.
- Experience of managing large exploration project budgets (>$20M) dealing with soil sampling, geophysical, drilling contractors and geochemical assay laboratories.
- Experience of managing large infill drilling programmes for an advanced exploration project running 10-15 drilling rigs with multiple drilling contractors.
- Experience in exploration data management and geological interpretation utilising advanced geological exploration and visualisation software packages.
- Experience in leading and managing large exploration teams with a multi-cultural mix of national and international professionals and support staff
- Experience of developing and mentoring junior geologists and helping them realise their potential.

- Managing a large and diversified team
- Detailed budget planning and management for exploration projects >$20M
- Experience managing intensive drilling programme (10-15 drill rigs) across multiple sites
- Community engagement and project development experience
- Technical report writing
Technical Skills should include:
- Advanced computer and technical writing skills.
- Employee to be proficient in the MS suite.
- Employee to be systems focused and proficient in ArcGIS, Leapfrog, acQuire, other geoscientific applications as required.
