About Mount Milligan Mine
Located approximately 155 kilometres northwest of Prince George in central BC, the Mount Milligan Mine is a conventional truck-shovel open-pit copper and gold mine and concentrator with a 60,000 tpd capacity copper flotation processing plant.
Mount Milligan operates with comfortable camp accommodations equipped with private washrooms, TV, Wi-Fi, an onsite gym, and other recreational activities. Bus transportation to and from site is provided free of charge from several locations within the region.
Mount Milligan promotes a drug and alcohol-free workplace and has adopted a zero-tolerance policy with respect to alcohol or unauthorized drugs on site.
About The Opportunity
We have an exciting opportunity for a
Superintendent, Mine Operations to join our Mount Milligan Mine team.
This role plays a crucial role in ensuring the efficient and safe functioning of a mining site; the superintendent is responsible to plan, direct and coordinate, either personally or through subordinate supervisors, the activities of employees engaged in the mining of ore to ensure safe, environmentally sound and efficient mining operations. Also, monitoring costs, productivity, safety, environmental compliance and employee morale.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervises, directs and coordinates personnel activities concerned with mine production including but not be limited to knowledge of mining technology, methods, procedures, standards and machine and equipment capabilities. Interacts with mine management to establish production and quality standards.
- Plans and directs mining activities and priorities in keeping with effective mining operations and cost factors. Coordinates production activities along with procurement, maintenance, production planning, safety and quality control activities to obtain optimal use of employee and equipment resources.
- Reviews and analyzes production to determine causes on non-conformity with production specifications and operating or production problems. Through collaboration and effective communication with all appropriate parties, develops and implements methods and procedures to eliminate operational problems and improve efficiency and ore quality. Communicates and coordinates with engineering to modify machines and equipment in order to improve productivity.
- Revises production schedule as necessary. Effectively communicates any changes in schedules, production or procedures to all shifts and employees.
- Directly supports the Mine Manager in all aspects of daily mine operations. Assumes duties and responsibilities of the Mine Manager during his absence.
- Manages performance and development of direct reports. Ensures compliance with Company personnel policies and procedures. Provides specific training and development opportunities for supervisory and hourly employees. Counsels and coaches subordinates concerning employee relations, safety, environmental, productivity and cost issues.
- Monitors employee morale, overtime and attendance. Participates in employee meetings to resolve personnel issues. Recommends disciplinary action as warranted. Ensures compliance with provisions of Federal, Provincial and Company safety rules, regulation and policies.
- Assists in the development and preparation of capital and operating budgets and reviews expenditures to prevent excess costs or inaccurate charges. Interfaces with vendors and suppliers to ensure the efficient use of supplies and tools.
- Studies and reviews data, charts, reports and records and confers with engineering, maintenance and production personnel to plan and direct activities impacting departmental productivity. Provides input for short and long range operations planning and development.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Work to align and progress employees as well as advance employee’s skill sets through the training process to meet the needs of the business.
- Ensure contracts are aligned and monitored to achieve budget restraints.
About You
Our ideal candidate will possess the following skillset and experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in mining engineering or other closely related field - preferred but not required.
- Seven to ten years related operations experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Previous experience within a General Foreman or Supervisory role.
- Must be team oriented and possess the ability to develop and foster a team environment.
- Thorough working knowledge of efficient mining techniques and procedures that conform to applicable Company, Provincial and Federal safety regulations.
- Knowledgeable in related computer applications and proficient in their use.
- Strong organizational and time management skills /ability to continually prioritize workload and respond to top priorities with a sense of urgency.
- Detail-oriented with both the ambition and willingness to dive into the details necessary to accomplish responsibilities and solve problems.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with all levels of internal and external stakeholders.
Working Conditions
- Camp-based role working 12-hour days on a 14 day on, 14 day off rotation, with accommodation provided during rotation (flexible alternative schedules to be considered such as a 7 day on, 7 day off rotation, etc.).
- Exposure to indoor/outdoor environments, heavy equipment, noise, and moving parts.
- PPE always required.
- Safety-sensitive environment with zero-tolerance drug and alcohol policy.
- Bus transportation provided from regional locations.
