Rainy River Mine
Situated in beautiful northwestern Ontario, 65 km northwest of Fort Frances, the Rainy River Mine is an open pit, gold and silver producing, residential mine site.
The Rainy River Mine, located adjacent to the Ontario / Minnesota border is 65 Kilometers northwest of Fort Frances, Ontario and is situated half way between Winnipeg, Manitoba and Thunder Bay, Ontario The area is home to more than 130 species of birds and large populations of moose, black bear and deer. About The Role
Schedule: 40 hours per week, flexible work schedules/rotations available (4/3, 7/7, 14/14)
Position Reports To: Health, Safety and Training Manager
Position Overview
The Industrial Hygienist is responsible for maintaining and managing Rainy River Mine’s Occupational Health and Industrial Hygiene programs. These programs have been designed to anticipate, evaluate and control chemical, physical and biological hazards in the open pit, underground mine, the mill and throughout the surface site.
Primary Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain control programs that help to recognize and assess occupational health hazards
- Provide advice to management on current exposure guidelines and industry best practice
- Maintain all Industrial Hygiene monitoring equipment
- Conduct Industrial Hygiene exposure monitoring, analyze data and generate reports
- Make recommendations regarding contaminant and exposure control, where required
- Communicate monitoring results and mitigation recommendations with management, Joint Health & Safety Committee and employees
- Determine effectiveness of engineering controls
- Develop and deliver Occupational Health training
- Assist in incident investigations, where required
- Ensure the appropriate document controls are in place for all Industrial Hygiene & Occupational Health related documents
- Evaluate current and emerging safety and IH related regulations and applicable standards, communicate impact and recommend risk-based mitigation actions
Skills, Knowledge, Qualifications And Experience
- Minimum bachelor’s degree in a related field (such as BSc in Occupational and Public Health) or Technologist in related field with preference given to a Master’s degree specializing in Industrial Hygiene
- Minimum 5 years Health & Safety/Industrial Hygiene related experience
- Working towards or certified as a CIH
- Experience in mining or other industrial related environment
- Knowledge of Occupational Health & Safety regulations
- Demonstrated knowledge in exposure monitoring methodology and control principles
- Proficient in use and calibration of exposure monitoring equipment
- Proficiency in computer software applications
- Experience demonstrating a high level of problem solving and decision making
- Ability to work independently, and as part of a team
- Self-motivated, with a high level of planning, scheduling and organizational skills
- Excellent written and communication skills
- Strong interpersonal skills
Compensation
The anticipated salary range for this position will be between $100,00-$120,000.
