HME Planning Specialist (OC). You will be expected to align to the Barrick DNA and to operate within our mining assets and with our teams . You will contribute in a safe and cost-effective manner towards achieving targets in accordance with Mine Safety Standards, Policies and Procedures.
The HME Planning Specialist is the senior regional specialist responsible for establishing and driving Barrick's AME Open Cut HME long-term planning capability. The role owns professional rolling maintenance plans, zero-based budgeting, and dynamic lifecycle costing to deliver improved budget accuracy and a significant reduction in unplanned work.
Working in close partnership with the HME Asset Health Specialist and HME Systems Specialist, the role integrates reliability insights with disciplined planning to enable data-driven decision making and optimized component replacement scheduling.
The position develops and enforces regional Maintenance Work Management standards and Supplier, Input, Process, Output, Customer and Review (SIPOCR) processes in line with the Barrick Maintenance Work Management Procedure, and delivers a planner training pathway to build site capability.
A key responsibility is ensuring site teams maximize the current SAP environment while leading the evaluation of any approved complementary lifecycle costing and long-term planning tools that address structural gaps SAP was not designed to fill - including dynamic component-level forecasting, zero-based budget generation, and what-if scenario modelling.
Responsibilities
- Lead the design and implementation of the AME Open Cut HME long-term planning function, including 24-month rolling main component plans and 12-month detailed component and long-lead resource rolling plans.
- Own and maintain always-current Life-of-Mine (LOM) HME maintenance budgets, driving full utilization of SAP's current planning and cost management capabilities, and leading the evaluation and adoption of any approved complementary lifecycle costing platform providing dynamic component-level forecasting, zero-based budget generation, and what-if scenario modelling beyond SAP's native capability.
- Develop, implement, and enforce the Barrick AME Maintenance Work Management standards and Supplier, Input, Process, Output, Customer and Review (SIPOCR) processes for long-term planning, planning, and scheduling across the region, in alignment with the Barrick Maintenance Work Management Procedure.
- Ensure site planning teams are maximising the full capabilities of the current SAP S4/HANA environment, including Phase Model workflow, advanced scheduling, and standard job libraries.
- Lead the regional review and evaluation of any proposed system enhancements or approved complementary planning tools in conjunction with the regional Underground and Engineering support teams, ensuring measurable outcomes and Barrick governance compliance - noting that specific system selection remains subject to Barrick approval.
- Establish and manage a professional maintenance planning cadence (24/12/3/1-week rolling plans and post-week reviews) with clear regional and site role accountability.
- Influence and hold site planning, scheduling, and maintenance teams accountable for planning standards, schedule compliance, backlog management, and SAP data quality through regular site engagement and performance reviews.
- Partner closely with the HME Asset Health Specialist and HME Systems Specialist to ensure reliability insights, condition-based strategies, and high-quality master data feed into accurate long-term plans and budgets.
- Work collaboratively with the regional Underground and Engineering support teams to ensure planning standards and processes are aligned across the broader AME organization.
- Create and deliver a comprehensive regional planner training pathway to uplift site planning capability and ensure consistent adoption of standards.
- Monitor planning KPIs across AME Open Cut sites, providing analysis, reporting, and escalation to drive accountability and continuous improvement.
- Ensure all planning activities comply with Barrick standards, safety requirements, and local regulations.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Business, Supply Chain, or related field.
- Advanced certification in asset management or maintenance planning (e.g. Certified Maintenance and Reliability Professional (CMRP)) preferred.
- Professional registration with a relevant engineering body will be beneficial
Experience And Requirements
- Minimum 8-10 years in maintenance planning and work management in large-scale Open Cut mining, with a strong HME focus across multiple sites.
- Proven experience developing and implementing regional planning standards, rolling-horizon processes, Supplier, Input, Process, Output, Customer and Review (SIPOCR) frameworks, and driving SAP utilization for planning and budgeting.
- Demonstrated experience with leading complementary lifecycle costing and long-term planning tools that complement SAP - including dynamic component-level forecasting, zero-based budget generation, interactive long-term planning, and scenario modelling - and the ability to evaluate and lead adoption of such systems.
- Demonstrated ability to influence and hold site planning teams accountable across multiple locations without direct line authority.
- Experience delivering training and building planning capability in operational teams.
