Walker River Resources (TSXV: WRR) increased its land holdings at and adjacent to the Lapon Canyon gold project, located approximately 60 kilometres southeast of Yerington, Nevada.

In a press release, the Vancouver-based miner said it grew its land holdings approximately 4 kilometres north of Lapon by acquiring, through staking, an additional 36 claims covering the new Pikes Peak property, which was discovered by its geologists during the current geological and mapping survey of the claim group and adjoining properties.

In company experts’ view, Pikes Peak hosts the potential to provide a northern extension to the Lapon Canyon project’s recently discovered range front zone.

The Lapon Project sits on the Walker Lane shear zone, a 100-kilometre-widestructural corridor extending in a southeast direction from Reno, Nevada. According to its Canadian owner, within this trend, numerous gold, silver, and copper mines are located, notably the historic Comstock Lode mines in Virginia City. Also nearby are the past-producing Esmeralda/Aurora gold mine, with reported production of some one million ounces, and the Anaconda open-pit copper mine.
