AcmeLabs® Contributes Funds to Support the Mineral Deposit Research Unit’s Exploration Geochemistry Initiative

VANCOUVER (June 4, 2014) – AcmeLabs, a geochemical and assaying laboratory acquired by Bureau Veritas in 2012, announced today that they have contributed funding to support the Mineral Deposit Research Unit’s (MDRU) Exploration Geochemistry Initiative. The MDRU is an internationally recognized, collaborative research venture between the minerals industry and the University of British Columbia (UBC) dedicated to solving exploration problems and training the next generation of exploration geologists.

Led by Dr. Peter Winterburn, recently appointed Acme Industrial Research Chair, the funds will support the creation of a five-year geochemical exploration research program to significantly increase the amount and quality of research and training in the discipline of mineral exploration geochemistry.

“This generous contribution from AcmeLabs has enabled MDRU to acquire the qualified expert personnel needed to successfully lead this program,” said Dr. Craig Hart, Director of the MDRU. “We look forward to furthering the development of innovative technologies and geochemical exploration techniques as a result of this research initiative.”

The goals of the research program will be to understand element mobility and transport through the surficial environment, specifically from buried and blind deposits, to develop new mineral exploration techniques and strategies and to establish additional training, education and professional development opportunities in the field.

“The need for additional research and development of geochemical exploration is paramount towards improving technologies, reducing costs and curtailing risk.” said John Gravel, Technical Vice President of AcmeLabs. “This strategic decision reiterates our commitment to support the growth and development of the mining and minerals industry and solidify the prolific future of our business.”
