SME 2017 Photo Contest Winners

Dmitry Klebanov

The first place winner of the 2017 SME Photo Contest is Dmitry Klebanov, with his intriguing photograph entitled “Lunch Time.” Dmitry tells us that the IZ-KARTEX EKG-10 shovel implemented with the KARIER Mine Fleet Management System, manages and optimizes the mining equipment and dump trucks during the shift at the Stoilensky GOK iron-ore mine in western Russia. The photograph invokes a calm and serene respite amid the hectic day’s chores.

Second place winner Shawn Calendine calls his entry “Setting Geophones for Seismic Data Acquisition.” Winning entries were showcased at the 2017 SME Annual Conference & Expo and 119th CMA National Western Mining Conference, February 19-22 at the Colorado Convention Center in Denver. More than 6,300 attendees enjoyed viewing the winning entries which were displayed onsite at the conference, and the images are published on the SME website and Facebook pages.

Sponsored by the Coal & Energy Division of the Society for Mining, Metallurgy & Exploration (SME), the 2017 photo contest theme was “Innovations in Technology” where judges looked for images of innovation within the mining, minerals and related industries. First, second and third place prizes included cash and a one-year SME membership.
