Steelworkers at Mount Polley to vote on tentative deal

WILLIAMS LAKE, BC, July 25, 2018 /CNW/ – Some 200 members of the United Steelworkers (USW) at Mount Polley mine near Williams Lake, B.C., are set to vote on a tentative agreement next week, following an eight-week strike in response to a company lockout and attempts to extract concessions.
“Our members have stood strong and stood together in their desire to see a fair agreement,” says USW Staff Representative Sean Ball. “We’re confident that we have found an agreement that resolves a number of our members’ concerns and protects what they have fought for.”
USW Local 1-2017 Business Agent Dan Will thanked the community and other union members for their support during the strike. “The support from the community and other union members was incredible,” says Will.Voting on the tentative agreement will take place next Tuesday, July 31, and Wednesday, Aug. 1. If the agreement is approved, members will soon return to work.
