$25 admission nets couple 50.5 carat emerald at North Carolina mine
ABC News reports that two amateur rockhounds, Libby and Kevin Barrieault, found a 50.5 carat emerald in North Carolina.
In mid-March the couple paid $25 to Jamie Hill, who owns North American Emerald Mine in Hiddenite, N.C., to explore his property
“We hit the jackpot,” Lofgren told ABC News. “It’s so surreal . . .It’s amazing to see so much green.”
After making the discovery, the couple originally talked about keeping it, but it is now up on eBay with a starting bid of $8,000.
An entertaining profile of Hill’s business is up on YouTube.
