Senate Hearing on Implementing the MINER Act
The Senate Health Education Labor and Pension Subcommittee on Employment and Workplace Safety recently held a hearing to discuss efforts to implement the MINER Act, which was signed into law two years ago following a series of tragedies in coal mines.
Attendance at the hearing was limited to Subcommittee Chairwoman Patty Murray (D-WA), Ranking Member Johnny Isakson (R-GA), Senator Jay Rockefeller (D-WV) and Senator Wayne Allard (R-CO). Testifying before the Subcommittee were Acting Assistant Secretary of Labor for Mine Safety and Health Richard Stickler; Associate Director for Mining and Construction for the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) Dr. Jeffrey Kohler; Dennis O’Dell representing the United Mine Workers of America (UMWA); and Bruce Watzman representing the National Mining Association….Full Story
