The clues led to gold: New Brunswick treasure finally found
Months of clues, research and hiking through New Brunswick’s historic mining districts led geology graduates Oliver Baker and Bella Ruppert to a small wooden box hidden beneath an old hydro structure at Tetagouche Falls.
The pair had spent months following The Great Canadian Treasure Hunt before uncovering the New Brunswick bonus prize — six one-ounce gold coins worth roughly $35,000. But when they finally found the box, they weren’t convinced it contained the treasure and nearly left it behind.
In this interview, Baker and Rupert explain how geology, mining history and persistence helped them crack the clues and claim the gold.
