Peter and Nancy Staples weren’t looking for the Nova Scotia bonus treasure when they set out with their son Gerald along the Bay of Fundy coast. The family had spent months discussing clues and plotting possible locations in The Great Canadian Treasure Hunt, all in pursuit of the grand prize.

Instead, during a stop near Cape d’Or, they stumbled across the Nova Scotia bonus cache worth more than $30,000 in gold — before its clue had even been released.
