Kashmir coal mine collapses killing five
A coal mine in Kashmir collapsed after a gas explosion took place at the Seri Darra village near Muzaffarabad. The incident killed five miners and injured two others.
According to the Deputy Commissioner of Muzaffarabad, Masood ur-Rehman, seven people were digging coal about 800 feet deep in the tunnel and they got trapped when the mine collapsed on them.
A couple of workers were able to escape, but the rest died before rescuers reached them early in the morning.
The site has been shut down until further notice and six officials of the mining company were arrested for failing to observe safety standards.
