Indian minister jailed for illegal mining
The Water Resources Minister of Indian state Gujarat has been given a three year prison sentence for his role in illegal limestone mining, the Indian Express reported Sunday.
Minister Babu Bokhiria will be joined in prison by three of his relatives, including a former Indian MP, for their roles in the case that first surfaced in 2006.
The group will have one week to file appeals against the court’s decision, which convicted Bokhiria and his family members of theft and criminal trespassing, among other crimes.
Bokhiria has yet to resign as minister, leaving the decision in the hands of his party.
