Job Description
Reporting to Senior Geo Metallurgist, the role of a Geo metallurgist is to oversee performance of the ROM pad Stockpile and Expit sampling, GeoMet testworks, Ore Hardness, flotation test works, screen analysis tests, Metallurgical tests as directed by the Senior Geo Metallurgist. Improve and maintain performance in terms of safety, production, and cost control.
Your duties will include but are not limited to the following:
- Promote and comply with the Occupational Health & Safety Policy.
- Ensure personnel are adequately inducted in their work area and are aware of all workplace rules and critical procedures and contribute to site safety policy and new initiatives as directed by management.
- Working on metallurgical strategy and plans developed with Metallurgical Superintendent, implement agreed plant operating parameters in liaison with Plant Coordinators.
- Monitor all stages of the metallurgical process to allow adjustments to process controls to enhance plant performance.
- Responsible for Flotation test works (Geo-Met) used for ore classification by mineral resource team (Geologists).
- Provide support to shift Met when overloaded with production issues.
- Investigate performance issues, initiate test work, trials and strategy to resolve and for continuous improvement.
- Responsible for reagents testing collectors, Frother, Flocculants and depressants to establish the most suitable reagent and optimum dosage for the ore being treated.
- Carry out flotation test to determine maximum copper concentrate grade and copper in final tailings achievable for a given ore prior to feeding the Plant and advise mining team accordingly.
- Optimize metallurgical mineral processing performance by conducting Gyratory crusher closed side setting measurement, SAG and Ball mill grind media level determination and mill liner thickness measurement, hydrocyclones, flotation cells, Jameson cell and instream Analysers inspections.
- Ensure quality concentrate production and high recovery of metal at the budgeted process operating cost.
- Conduct laboratory flotation test work, plant surveys and plant trials and interpret analytical results. Communicate results to internal teams and management via written reports and verbal PowerPoint presentations.
- Propose and direct investigations into technical and operating problems to recommend action and, where appropriate, adopt new scientific techniques and technology to improve process efficiency and product quality.
- Analyze operational data (plant data) to identify recovery, concentrate quality and cost improvement opportunities.
- Supervise Metallurgical Laboratory.
To be considered for the position, you must meet the following requirements:
- Full Grade 12 School Certificate
- Minimum of Degree in Metallurgy or Mineral Processing or Chemical Engineering or any related field.
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in large copper concentrators and process mineralogy (Optical microscopy.)
- Experience and specialised training in geo-met test works will be an added advantage.
- Excellent Knowledge of computers, Microsoft office package and power point (Excel & Word processing)
- Good communication skills.
- Willingness to learn and adaptable.
