Job Description
Reporting to Senior Metallurgist Technical, the Technical Metallurgist will play a key role in overseeing and optimizing plant performance while driving cost-effective operational outcomes. This position is responsible for supporting safe and efficient metallurgical operations, ensuring compliance with site policies, environmental standards, and operational targets. The role will focus on monitoring and improving metallurgical processes, driving automation effectiveness, supporting change management initiatives, and contributing to continuous improvement across plant operations.
Your duties will include but are not limited to the following:
- Promote and comply with the Occupational Health & Safety Policy.
- Ensure personnel are adequately inducted in their work area and are aware of all workplace rules and critical procedures and contribute to site safety policy and new initiatives as directed by management.
- Apply metallurgical systems to achieve planned plant utilization and recovery targets. Collect and analyze information to assess performance statistics, statutory requirements and systems efficiency.
- Assist the Senior metallurgist with implementation of change management initiatives and other business improvement projects.
- Monitor plant performance against key performance indicators for variances and trends.
- Monitor all stages of the metallurgical process to allow adjustments to process controls to enhance plant performance.
- Monitor the content and discharge of process tailings to comply with environmental management obligations.
- Drive process automation and controller utilization above 90%
- Assist the Senior Metallurgist in developing and improving metallurgical systems to ensure optimal plant utilization and recovery.
- Ensure the regular review of metallurgical processes and investigate, assess and where appropriate, try new methods or technology.
- Ensure onstream analysers are calibrated and are in good working order.
To be considered for the position, you must meet the following requirements:
- Full Grade 12 School Certificate
- Minimum of Degree in Metallurgy or Mineral Processing or Chemical Engineering.
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in large copper concentrators
- Experience and knowledge of PI vision, PI data link and SCADA is an added advantage.
- Excellent Knowledge of computers, Microsoft office package and power point (Excel & Word processing)
- Good communication skills.
- Willingness to learn and adaptable.
