About Mount Milligan Mine
Located approximately 155 kilometres northwest of Prince George in central BC, the Mount Milligan Mine is a conventional truck-shovel open-pit copper and gold mine and concentrator with a 60,000 tpd capacity copper flotation processing plant.
Mount Milligan operates with comfortable camp accommodations equipped with private washrooms, TV, Wi-Fi, an onsite gym, and other recreational activities. Bus transportation to and from site is provided free of charge from several locations within the region.
Mount Milligan promotes a drug and alcohol-free workplace and has adopted a zero-tolerance policy with respect to alcohol or unauthorized drugs on site.
About The Opportunity
Mount Milligan is seeking a
Co‑op Student, Mill Maintenance, to support the reliability and performance of mill equipment by assisting with data analysis, documentation, continuous improvement initiatives, and troubleshooting activities. Working closely with maintenance, operations, and engineering teams, the student will help identify reliability issues, contribute to corrective action processes, and participate in condition monitoring programs. This role provides hands‑on exposure to industrial maintenance practices in a dynamic plant environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with cross functional teams to identify, analyze, and help resolve reliability issues impacting mill production.
- Support ongoing condition monitoring initiatives to improve equipment performance and reduce unplanned downtime.
- Assist in developing and maintaining reliability documentation, maintenance reports, and technical records.
- Participate in root cause analysis (RCA), defect elimination sessions, and development of corrective actions.
- Support troubleshooting efforts by gathering data, performing basic analysis, and preparing recommendations.
- Assist in tracking equipment performance trends and maintenance key performance indicators (KPIs).
- Contribute to continuous improvement activities focused on equipment reliability, work execution, and maintenance processes.
- Recommend enhancements to inspection practices, reporting tools, and data collection methods.
- Work closely with mill operations, maintenance, and engineering teams to ensure effective communication of findings and recommendations.
- Prepare clear and concise technical summaries, updates, and reports.
About You
- Currently enrolled in a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or a closely related discipline.
- Valid class 5 driver’s licence.
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities with an aptitude for troubleshooting mechanical systems.
- Mechanically inclined with an interest in equipment maintenance and reliability.
- Proficiency with data analysis tools and software (e.g., Excel, dashboards, or engineering analysis software).
- Ability to interpret technical data, trends, and maintenance information.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Strong teamwork abilities with willingness to collaborate across various departments.
- Attention to detail and a proactive, self‑motivated approach to learning.
- Adaptable, flexible, and able to work effectively in a fast‑paced industrial environment.
Working Conditions
- Camp-based role working 12-hour days on a 14 day on/14 day off or 7 day on/7 day off rotation, with accommodations provided during rotation.
- Exposure to indoor/outdoor environments, heavy equipment, noise, and moving parts.
- PPE always required.
- Safety-sensitive environment with zero-tolerance drug and alcohol policy.
