Responsibilities
- Comply with Barrick’s established health and safety policies, procedures, practices and Occupational Health and Safety Acts.
- Visibly practice safety leadership through leading by example.
- Actively ensure a safe environment for yourself, your peers and local communities through regular communication and due diligence.
- Promptly report and correct unsafe acts and conditions.
- Actively ensure that fatal risks are understood and critical controls are maintained.
- Develop and deliver training programs for underground charge-up operations, including theoretical and practical sessions.
- Train miners in the safe handling, storage, transportation, and use of explosives and detonators.
- Demonstrate correct charging and blasting techniques in accordance with mine design and regulatory standards.
- Assess and certify employees’ competency in charge-up and blasting operations.
- Ensure compliance with all safety, health, and environmental (SHE) regulations during training and field activities.
- Coach operators on identifying and mitigating hazards during charge-up and blasting activities.
- Maintain training records, competency reports, and progress tracking for each trainee.
- Liaise with supervisors and safety officers to identify training needs and skill gaps.
- Promote continuous improvement in blasting practices and safety awareness.
- Conduct refresher courses and retraining sessions as required.
- Reporting unsafe practices and recommend corrective actions.
Qualification Requirements
- Blasting Certificate or Explosives License (recognized by local mining authority).
- Train-the-Trainer certification or equivalent qualification in adult education or workplace training will be advantageous.
Experience And Skills Requirements
- 5–7 years of hands-on underground charge-up or blasting experience.
- 2–3 years in a supervisory or training or coaching capacity (e.g., Charge Up Supervisor, Leading Hand, or Trainer role).
- Proven experience as a Charge Up Operator in an underground mine.
- Strong knowledge of underground mining methods, explosives, and blasting procedures.
- Familiarity with mine safety regulations and risk management practices.
- Excellent communication, coaching, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and in hazardous environments.
- Computer literacy (MS Office, training software) for training reports and assessments

About The Team
The Loulo-Gounkoto complex comprises two distinct mining permits, Loulo and Gounkoto, and is situated in western Mali, bordering Senegal and adjacent to the Falémé River.
Société des Mines de Loulo SA (Loulo) owns the Loulo gold mine, and Société des Mines de Gounkoto (Gounkoto) owns the Gounkoto gold mine. Both Loulo and Gounkoto are owned by Barrick (80%), and the State of Mali (20%).
