Senior Accountant.
About The Role
The Senior Accountant is responsible for managing the month-end process, maintaining accurate financial records, and ensuring compliance with accounting standards. This role handles general ledger reconciliations, payroll accruals, and financial reporting. It also supports audits, prepares key financial statements, and ensures accurate processing of gold sales, royalties, and intercompany
In This Role, You Will
- General Ledger & Month-End Close
- Oversee the month-end process, including accruals, prepayments, and reconciliations.
- Process IFRS 16 lease adjustments and other statutory journal entries.
- Ensure prior period accruals and adjustments are correctly reversed.
- Perform integrity checks to maintain accuracy and compliance with accounting standards.
- Prepare financial reports, including P&L and balance sheet analysis.
- Financial Reporting & Reconciliations
- Prepare and review financial statements, trial balances, and reconciliations.
- Manage intercompany reconciliations and ensure accurate reporting.
- Perform bank reconciliations across all company accounts.
- Validate and report on gold sales, royalty payments and production levies.
- Payroll & Employee Liabilities
- Process payroll accruals, including salary, bonuses and leave liabilities.
- Accrue and reconcile fringe benefits tax and associated GST calculations.
- Work with HR to verify headcount data and ensure payroll accuracy.
- Compliance & Audit Support
- Ensure transactions comply with IFRS and company accounting policies.
- Assist with audits by preparing reconciliations and responding to queries.
- Process tax-related journal entries, including GST and deferred tax.
- Strengthen financial controls to improve compliance and reporting accuracy.
- Maintain a high level of health, safety and environmental awareness and comply with all relevant NPL policies & procedures.
About You
To succeed in this role, the ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications and experiences:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field.
- Professional accounting qualification (e.g., CPA, CA, ACCA).
- Demonstrable experience in financial accounting and compliance, preferably in the mining or resource sector with in-depth knowledge of IFRS, tax laws, and financial regulations applicable in PNG.
- Demonstrated leadership experience with strong team management and mentoring skills.
Preferred Skills
- Experience in ERP systems (SAP (FICO), Oracle (ARCs), Pronto) and ideally with Xeras, OneStream
- Financial Accounting Expertise: Strong knowledge of month-end processing, financial reporting and reconciliations.
- Sales & Revenue Accounting: Experience in revenue recognition and reconciliation.
- Attention to Detail: Ability to identify and resolve discrepancies in financial records.
- Compliance & Auditing Readiness: Understanding of IFRS financial controls, and audit processes.
Mobilization Requirement
This is a PNG National position, a site-based role on a FIFO arrangement with a rotation of 21 days on and 14 days off. Candidates must successfully pass a pre-employment medical, including drug and alcohol screening (to be arranged only for successful candidates after the interview stage), and provide an up-to-date Police Clearance Certificate (acquired within the last 6 months).
