Chinese police said they have shut down a Hong Kong-based diamond-smuggling ring, in three months of arrests and confiscations. Twenty eight people were arrested between January and March and diamonds worth $31 million were confiscated, making it one of the largest busts in diamond history.

North American Palladium Ltd. ("NAP" or the "Company") (TSX:PDL)(NYSE Amex:PAL) today released an updated mineral reserve and mineral resource estimate for its Vezza gold project and Sleeping Giant gold mine, located in the Abitibi gold district in Quebec. Reliance Steel & Aluminum Co. (NYSE:RS) reported today its financial results for the first quarter ended March 31, 2011. For the 2011 first quarter, Reliance reported net income of $92.3 million, up 107% from 2010 first quarter net income of $44.7 million, and up 134% from $39.5 million in the 2010 fourth quarter. Earnings per diluted share were $1.23 in the 2011 first quarter, up 105% from 2010 first quarter earnings per diluted share of $.60 and up 132% from $.53 for the 2010 fourth quarter. Sales for the 2011 first quarter were $1.91 billion, up 32% from 2010 first quarter sales of $1.45 billion, and up 21% from 2010 fourth quarter sales of $1.58 billion.

Wolverine Minerals Corp. Sherritt's Q1 earnings rose 116% over the same quarter a year ago. The company reported net earnings on Thursday of $63.6 million or 22 cents a share. A year ago, the company reported only $29.4 million in net earnings or 10 cents a share. The company's sales volumes were up slightly. Sherritt's sales volumes of nickel, reported in thounsands of pounds, was 9,438 in 2011 and 9,392 in 2010, less than a one per cent increase.
