FEASIBILITY

During the initial stages of a project there are many competing factors to consider on whether a project will be built and eventually operate, not the least of which is capital cost. ANDRITZ can help control capital cost by using the IDEAS simulator to test various process designs and examine the effect on not only equipment cost, but energy, water and chemical consumption. Ore types can be tested, and metal recoveries deter-mined for competing circuit designs, giving decision makers more data when determining NPV or ROI commitments. ENGINEERING

Detailed engineering is where a process moves from concept to reality. Thousands of decisions must be made in a timely manner and important data are used to guide those decisions. Simulation based engineering is a method of capturing design data in a model, so that decisions are not made in isolation. It is also a time when control concepts are introduced, and instrumentation is suggested and pro-cured. A dynamic model in the hands of an engineering team not only sizes equipment properly but ensures the design is operable. COMMISSIONING

Commissioning can be exhilarating or overwhelming. ANDRITZ has tools and methods to pre-commission the process design, the control system (including advanced control) and train operators so that startup is predictable. Startup is when all equipment is energized and expected to perform as designed. By connecting the dynamic model to the control system before startup, errors in control logic are corrected and taken off the critical path, and the same system is also used to train operators, so that during real mill startup operators already have gained valuable experience and are not overwhelmed.
