Cutifani lined up for top job at Anglo
<<UPDATE: Anglo confirms appointment of Cutifani>>
AngloGold Ashanti (NYSE:AU) Chief Executive Officer Mark Cutifani seems to be the front-runner in the race for the vacant top job at Anglo American (LON:AAL), according to sources quoted by Reuters.
The job has been available since October, when Anglo’s board nudged Carroll to leave the company after more than five years at the helm, which saw a drop in profits and a series of operational problems.
In November, Cutifani made it into the list of the seven said to be most likely the next Anglo CEO. Other familiar faces included Alex Vanselow, a former chief financial officer at BHP, Aaron Regent, the former Barrick Gold CEO, and Chris Griffiths, who heads up Anglo’s platinum business Amplats.
If the rumours are true, Cutifani will be only the second non-South African to head Anglo American, following the US-born Carroll.
