About Mount Milligan Mine
Located approximately 155 kilometres northwest of Prince George in central BC, the Mount Milligan Mine is a conventional truck-shovel open-pit copper and gold mine and concentrator with a 60,000 tpd capacity copper flotation processing plant.
Mount Milligan operates with comfortable camp accommodations equipped with private washrooms, TV, Wi-Fi, an onsite gym, and other recreational activities. Bus transportation to and from site is provided free of charge from several locations within the region.

About The Opportunity
Mount Milligan is seeking a
Co-op Student TSF to assist the Engineering team by providing support in various geotechnical engineering tasks. The role is designed to offer practical experience in geotechnical engineering, focusing on tailings storage facilities (TSF) and other geotechnical structures. This position will provide exposure to several groups that include Mine Planning, Tailings, Geotechnical, Mill, Geology, Environmental, and Operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the scope and management of site investigations.
- Support the inspection of water and tailings dams and infrastructure as per the Operation, Maintenance, and Surveillance (OMS) manual.
- Help monitor site instrumentation and collaborate with the Senior Geotechnical Engineer and Engineer of Record.
- Participate in QA/QC activities for TSF construction.
- Aid in the management of field instrumentation and related databases and systems.
- Assist in slope stability assessments.
- Perform assigned duties related to monitoring pumping and seepage flows, and pumping status as directed by the Water Resources Engineer.
- Work closely with the Dewatering teams, Mill Tailing Operators, and the Environment Department to effectively manage site water resource structures and related activities as per the Site Water Management Plan (SWMP).
- Assist the Water Resources Engineer in compiling water management data and conducting quality assurance and quality control (QAQC) tasks.
- Contribute to the Weekly Tailings Plan for Mill Operations and Site Services as needed.
- Perform other responsibilities related to the Geotechnical Coop role as required or assigned by the department head.
About You
- Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s degree program in Civil, Geological, Geotechnical, or Mining Engineering.
- A valid class 5 driver’s license.
- Previous co-op or internship experience in the mining industry is an asset.
- Familiarity with geotechnical software such as MinePlan, LeapFrog, Civil 3D, or Muk3D is an asset.
- Strong communication, coordination, and project management skills.
- Basic understanding of geotechnical field investigations, slope design and analysis, and geotechnical structures surveillance.
- Strong computer skills.
- Ability to work in a team environment and a strong attitude towards safety.
- Good work ethic and willingness to learn.
- Ability to meet pre-employment testing requirements.
Working Conditions
- Camp-based role working 12-hour days on a 14 day on/14 day off rotation, with accommodations provided during rotation.
- Exposure to indoor/outdoor environments, heavy equipment, noise, and moving parts.
- PPE always required.
- Safety-sensitive environment with zero-tolerance drug and alcohol policy.
- Bus transportation provided from regional locations.
